A warning – this report contains distressing images.
Israel’s relentless offensive has reduced Gaza’s neighbourhoods to rubble, while its six-week blockade prevents heavy machinery from reaching survivors, forcing rescuers to rely on hammers and bare hands. Over 17,000 children have been killed in 18 months of bombardment, with medics coining the acronym WCNSF (‘wounded child, no surviving family’) for countless orphans.
One such child, a wounded girl, was pulled from the debris by civil defence workers. As they gently freed her, she repeatedly cried for her mother—unaware she now belonged to Gaza’s growing legion of WCNSF cases. Her unanswered question hung in the air, louder than the artillery fire around them.
The siege deliberately cripples recovery efforts, blocking fuel, aid, and medical equipment even as attacks persist. In Khan Younis and beyond, families bury generations lost to what experts call a war of annihilation. This is not collateral damage—it is systematic destruction, unfolding in full view of a paralysed world.
